Tough Mudder 5

Image

Few weeks since I last took the piss out of my tough mudder team, so I thought I’d make a change of pace and be especially nice in this blog.

The last few weeks I set a challenge for the guys on the team, 2 set circuits to complete, working against the clock. By repeating the circuit each week it gave the guys all a chance to show how hard they can work by trying to better the time every week.

This circuit is designed to be challenging on a mental level as much as anything as it forces the guys to keep pushing against the clock despite how tired they might be.

The first circuit was two exercises, goblet squat and push press.

Goblet Squat

21reps

Push Press

21reps

Goblet Squat

15reps

Push Press

15reps

Goblet Squat

9reps

Push Press

9reps

(A couple of us did deadlifts instead of goblet squats as we already knew the technique. For everyone else we’d done goblet squats a few times before and people were more familiar with the technique).

The second circuit was a similar idea with different exercises. (Different people had different rep ranges for this one, but here’s an example).

Burpees

30

Pull Ups

15

Burpees

20

Pull Ups

10

Burpees

10

Pull Ups

5

Each person had their own weights, started a timer and had to try and finish as quickly as possible.

Each week went by with everyone improving at all aspects of the workouts, faster times from everyone as people took less rest between reps and pushed themselves harder. Some increased the weights they used and still posted improved times with weights they didn’t think they could manage. Pull ups are starting to look good from everyone and as lifting your body weight is going to be a major part of the tough mudder course, this is great news.

It’s only 7 weeks till the event, so it really is time for everyone to up their game. Training sessions are going to continue, but it’s time for everyone to up their game and do extra. I’m starting some outdoor running and upping the intensity of my boxing lessons to get my body for the cardio aspects of the event and will be soon changing the content of my private gym sessions. Will the rest of the team start their own training, let’s wait and see.
